Learning support At SAIBT we understand that the transition to University level study can be difficult for some students. To assist students to develop the study skills necessary to successfully complete their program of study, SAIBT offers a variety of study and learning support services, including:

Lecturer/student consultation
All SAIBT lecturers and tutors are available for face-to-face student consultation on campus outside class times.  If while undertaking studies at SAIBT, you experience difficulties with a particular course you are strongly encouraged to meet with your lecturer/tutor in the first instance to discuss ways in which we can assist you.

Tertiary Skills Development course
Our Academic Director runs a free six week course for students who want to develop their study skills in areas such as time management, note-taking and reading skills, examination techniques and stress management.

Attendance warnings
All international students enrolled at SAIBT are required by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) to maintain an average actual attendance rate of at least 80% per semester during their studies.  To ensure that international students do not breach their student visa conditions, students are able to view their actual attendance percentage through SAIBT’s student portal throughout the semester. The Academic Director reviews all attendance records at the end of each semester and contacts any student who has not been consistently attending classes and is at-risk of having their student visa cancelled by DIAC (Department of Immigration and Citizenship). However, it remains the student's responsibility to ensure that they maintain a satisfactory attendance.

Academic performance monitoring
During semester the Academic Director reviews the results students receive for each assessment item and contacts any student who is at risk of failing a course and being asked to attend a poor academic performance interview at the conclusion of the semester.  The purpose of this contact is to remind students of the support services available at SAIBT and that they should seek help as soon as possible to ensure that they have the best chance of successfully completing their studies.
